Preflight Check

Preflight is the way that InDesign combs through your document in real time and checks your error related to links, images, overflow, etc. you can  open the preflight window within Window > Output > Preflight. To keep this running just make sure that “on” option is checked. Preflight also display at all times along the bottom of your windows – green dot is an indication for being error free while red dot indicates these are the errors somewhere in your document. Mask An Image With Another Image

InDesign doesn’t have a specific mask command, but you can still combine two images to create unique graphics. The secret is in clipping path command you can’t use clipping paths to mask images in InDesign but you can use paths created in InDesign or embedded alpha channels created in an image-editing application. Using the clipping path command allows you to both create and control these types of paths.

Steps to mask an image with another image:

  • Place the image you plan to use as a mask into your document.
  • Select clipping path from the object menu to display the clipping path dialog box.
  • Choose detect edges from the Type pop-up menu. Then, click OK.
  • Finally click on the image with the direct selection tool and use the place command to import the second image into the selected path.

Flowing Text Boxes Through All Pages

This one is the secret weapon for flowing text……ready to know this? If the amount of text in a text box is more than the size of your text box this is called overflow, a little + red sign appear in the lower right corner of your text box. if you want to flow to a new text box , tap to this + sign then start drawing a new box and your text will automatically spill over the new box.

If you have bunch of pages to flow text boxes through, instead of having to draw your new text box on every single page, simply hold shift and click once in the top left corner of your margins. A new box will appear on that page and every page after as same as the exact size of your margins, until your text runs out.

 Eyedropper

You can use this eyedropper tool to mimic settings from existing copy, fills, strokes or colors within your document.

  • Select the highlight elements you want to give affect.
  • Pick the eyedropper tool and click on the original source.
