When you open an image in Photoshop, one of the following errors occurs:

  • Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document
  • Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found
  • Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file
  • This is not a valid Portable Document File (PDF) document. It cannot be opened.

Solutions

It is necessary that the extension added to the filename is appropriate for the actual file type of the image. When you select a format that from the Format pop-up menu in the Save As dialog box, the suitable extension is added automatically. And when user entered the extension manually, then there is a chance that you could have typed in an extension that doesn’t equivalent to the file format of your file.

Extension of the filename is hidden by default but you can turn it on, to do this apply the bellow given steps

In Mac OS

  1. In Finder, choose Finder > Finder Preferences > Advanced.
  2. Choose Show all filename extensions.

In Windows OS

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. If the menu is hidden then, select Organize > Layout > Menu Bar.
  3. Select Tools > Folder Options > View.
  4. Deselect Hide Extensions for Known File Types.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK to save all the settings.

Solution 2: Make sure that the file only has one filename extension.

After turning on the filename extensions, view your images in Finder or Windows Explorer, verify that there are two extensions on your files. If your photos have two extensions, such as:

  1. Filename.png.jpg
  2. Remove the last extension so the file is named:
